Occupational Therapy

WHAT WE DO

We help clients develop and maintain the skills to participate in everyday activities that are meaningful and purposeful to them. We use everyday life activities (occupations) to promote independence, well-being, and ability to participate in the important activities in your life. This includes, and not limited to taking care of themselvs and/or family, working, volunteering, going to school and accessing the community.

We help clients to achieve their personal goals through a tailored, client-focused approach. Therapy can take place in various environemnts such as in the clinic, in your home, or in community settings (i.e. education or work settings) depending on your personal needs and goals.

Sessions may involve supporting the development of:

  • Activities of daily living (ADL): Dressing, showering, toileting etc
  • Independent living skills (iADLs): Meal preparation, cleaning, laundry etc
  • Participation in leisure activities: Social events, play, hobbies etc

We use a holistic approach, considering the person, their enviornment and the activity to support participation, enjoyment and success.

We also perform Functional Capacity Assessments (FCA).

FCA are a comprehensive, objective and holistic assessment of a person’s current functional abilities and needs. It helps identify a person’s strengths and areas where support, assistance, or assistive technology may be required or beneficial.

A FCA may involve:

  • In-person interviews and information gathering
  • A review of your home or community environment
  • Standardised and informal assessment tools
  • Consultation with relevant stakeholders

Following the assessments and information gathering, you’ll receive a detailed report with tailored recommendations.

Our occupational therapists are qualified to support you with assessment, trial and recommendations for the following assistive technology solutions to support safety and independence:

  • Mobile shower commodes
  • Bathing equipment
  • Toileting equipment
  • Aids & devices (i.e. adaptive cutlery, self-tipping kettle etc)
